City Church
The most important architectural site in the city of Krakow am See is the
City Church. The brick building was built in the 13th Century. It is the oldest
building in the city. It has been remodeled continually since the many city
burnings of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Church is considered a fine example
of the style between the romantic and gothic architectural styles. As soon as
you enter the sanctuary of the church, you will see a beautiful altar with
carved relief.
Synagogue
Krakow am See has the only Synagogue in Northeast
Germany that is still in its original condition. There is also a Jewish
cemetery. In 1920 the synagogue became the property of the city as a result of
the vast emigration of the members of the synagogue. There have been
comprehensive restorations and today the synagogue is the home of the Krakow
Information Office. The former sanctuary now hosts exhibits, concerts, and
public readings.

City Hall – Rathaus
City Hall is the cornerstone of the City Market area, officially designated
as a historical treasure. In addition to City Hall, the City Market area
includes residences of the 18th and 19th centuries. City Hall itself was built
in the neo-gothic style in 1857. Across the market area is the new fountain in
the shape of a fish, which again invites dawdling.
Lookout Tower
No matter from which direction you approach our fair city; the first thing
you will notice is the Lookout Tower on the Joernberg. Those brave and strong
enough to climb all 126 steps of the tower will be rewarded with an outstanding
view of the labyrinth of lakes surrounding Krakow am See. The original tower,
built in 1897, was replaced with one of concrete with a steel girder in 1907,
which lasted until the war when bombs destroyed it. The viewing platform of
today’s tower is nearly 100 yards above see level.
Promenade on the Lake –
Seepromenade
This refreshing path along the shores of our city lake offers our guests
marvelous views of the jewel of Krakow am See. The reed covered boathouses, the
Hueden of the fishery, and the old bathhouse built in 1938, are particularly
enticing landmarks.
The Old Mill of Krakow am See – Krakower Mühle
Lightning on July 15th , 1975 destroyed the Old Mill of Krakow am See. The
Krakower Mill Preservation Society is hard at work to refurbish this
historically important site.
