Hello and welcome to the picturesque landscape of Krakow am See’s
lakes
The small town of Krakow am See can readily lay claim to marvelous
landscapes, a clean environment, and high water quality. Long renowned for its
clean air, Krakow am See has a lovely climate with strong maritime
influences.
Scenic lakes, rich with tiny islands and secluded inlets, invite you to come
swim, sail, row, surf, and fish!
Romantic trails through lush forests and woodlands offer cyclists and walkers
alike rest, relaxation, and recuperation.
An area of 52 square kilometers has been declared a natural conservation
area. The valley of the Nebel between Serrahn and Kuchelmiß is enchantingly
beautiful. The protected wetlands of the Krakower Obersee host a wide variety of
rare aquatic birds. This is one of the few places on our planet where you can
still see osprey in the wild. The wilderness park Nossentiner/ Schwinzer Heide
(Heather) is right outside the gates of Krakow am See.
The marvelous harmony created by the interplay of water, woods, soft hills,
flora and fauna will impress you regardless of whether you are exploring on
foot, on horseback, or as a passenger on the ferry "Frauenlob".
The famous German poet Fritz Reuter described our area as paradise.
To see our city from a different perspective, you need to view it from atop
the Lookout Tower.
You will find tiny village churches, ancient mansions, as well as barrows and
funeral mounds throughout our region.
In addition to broad culinary options, you will find accomodations to suit
any budget or preference, from camping to vacation homes to exclusive
hotels.
Our county seat, only 20 km (14 miles) away, offers the Barlach Memorial, a
renaissance castle, a cathedral, and other museums for those interested in
history and the arts.
